This Shiraz rosé from Kingfish (made by Delicato) is simply brilliant! With a soft fruitiness and a touch of spice it's like drinking a summer fruit mince pie. There is absolutely no way that this wine will fail to put a smile on your friends face. Without resorting to rocket high crowd-pleasing sugar levels this is miles better than the naff overly branded Californian wines you see advertised on the sides of buses.

Tasting notes

Deep garnet red in colour and brilliantly clear it has aromas of cherry cassis cranberry and strawberry. The palate is crisp fruity and refreshing with just the merest suggestion of sweetness to balance the spicy liquorice touches. The acid is balanced well with the level of fruit.

Production notes

Some of this wine was made using the cap and drain method where the fruit was crushed and allowed to sit on the skins for about 12 hours before pressing the juice off of its skins. This gives a darker garnet colour as well as extracting fruit flavours from the skins. The wine was then fermented slowly at cool temperatures to maintain the fruit flavours and then stopped from further fermentation by filtration (arresting the wine in this manner gives better fruit expression in the final wine). The wine was fined and filtered before bottling.

Food choice

Very versatile this one; try on its own or with spicy Thai coconut shrimp or even a fruit salad.

Grape mix

Mainly Shiraz with assorted splashes of Cabernet Sauvignon Chenin Blanc and Symphony.
